There are some great shows on this list, but none of them managed to make quite as big a splash as Mr. Robot did in its first season. The series debuted at SXSW, winning the audience award, and still it took its sweet time seeping into viewers' collective conscience. This was a true slow-burn series that eventually became one of the biggest conversations in television in 2015. A phenomenon in many ways, but one that feels deserving of the ti

It turns out that the two fellows are British assassins just coming off a job, and have been ordered to go to Bruges to hide out for a couple of weeks. While older Ken enjoys the beauty and history of the town, Ken is completely and utterly uninterested. While Ken seems to be as much a mentor as a partner to Ray, the younger half of this duo reminded me of a pesky five year old boy - kind of like Dennis the Menace after too much su

For much of the evening, Michael Hazanavicius’ black-and-white silent film homage, The Artist , swept the Golden Globes in the comedy category, coming out on top overall with three wins for Best Original Score, Best Actor and Best Picture. Over on the drama side, Alexander Payne's The Descendants t ook home the most awards in the drama category with a Best Actor win for George Clooney and Best Pict

It wasn't the F-word or the humor that struck me as odd, heck, I thought Superbad was really funny - it was the incongruity of the scenery and music against what the actors were saying and doing. On a side note, if profanity in films bothers you, this is SO not the movie for yo

Here is where we meet Mya and Ben, who supply the romantic connection in the Film festival games events|https://moviefestivalhub.com/. Mya is having an affair with Ben, apparently a rugged, yet sensitive guy whose naked butt the directors apparently felt it necessary to display. (What is it with horror movies, for which the target audience consists of young men, showing more male than female nudity? Wierd...) Anyway, Mya says she can't just pick up and leave her husband although Ben seems to be mister awesome romance guy. Before she leaves he gives her a custom mix music CD. She tries to call home as cover for her meeting with Ben, but both her cell phone and the landline telephone are making the same noise that was coming from the televis

Mr. Robot took the zeitgeist by storm this summer, ushering in a new world of prestige drama to the otherwise pedestrian enclave of USA Networks' original programming. Created by Sam Esmail, the show was visually inventive and tonally consistent throughout what often proved to be an astonishingly well made first season that didn't live down to its weird title. Bolstered by incredible performances (from nominees Rami Malek and Christian Slater), this is without a doubt the show to b

Brooklyn and Sicario are among the films nominated at the 2016 Producers Guild Awards and there's a reasonable chance that both of these critically-acclaimed titles will be nominated for Best Picture at the 2016 Academy Awards too. However, it's a competitive year in the drama category, so it was inevitable that not every critical darling would make the cut at the Golden Globes with only five slots availa

Both actors have been notoriously overlooked for the contributions made to their respective series. Emmerich is such an integral part of The Americans that it feels at times like he could take the lead and the show wouldn't miss a beat. Meanwhile, Slattery deserves a nod for the mustache he wore in the final season alone. There's also his getting drunk with Peggy in an empty office, so it bears repeating: Why isn't he on this l

In television, it was Showtime that came out on top, with three awards all stemming from brand new series. Matt Leblanc took home Best Actor (comedy or musical) for playing a fictionalized version of himself on the UK import Episodes , while Homeland not only brought home a Golden Globe for Claire Danes as Best Actress (drama), but it also gave Showtime its first ever award for Best Ser

Right from the opening frame of the movie it seems that the director is intent on keeping the audience off-balance. The camera pans across various landmarks and streets in the beautiful town of Bruges, Belgium with music that sounds like it comes from some French romance movie. But as this is happening, we get quick cuts to the two main characters, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) making funny comments profusely laced with the F-b

It remains to be seen if this is something that will plague the Oscars for the next handful of years or is merely a blip on the radar. Looking ahead to 2015's award season (I know, bear with me...), there are offerings from filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, and David O. Russell among others that could prove to be more lucrative endeavors than the crop we just got. The Academy will spend the next 12 months figuring out how to retool their telecast, but the odds of a ratings boost are in their fa
